Wonderful Lass added to her broodmare value with a game victory in Saturday’s $80,000 Recognition Stakes (Listed) over 1600m at Eagle Farm.

Wonderful Lass (4 m Catbird – Convent Lass, by Snippets) came with a determined challenge in the straight to edge out race-favorite Carry Me Bluey by a nose to register her first black type win.

“She’s been mixing her form of late so this is a pleasant surprise.” Patinack Farm’s Queensland representative Killion said. “She’s been very frustrating and I don’t know what happened last run but perhaps it was the hard track that day.”

Apprentice Tim Bell has been Wonderful Lass’ regular rider and had the four-year-old closer to the pace than in her past efforts. “She’s been to the races a few times lately and just hasn’t turned up a couple of times,” Bell said, adding, “but she was up closer to the pace today which helped.”

At this stage there are no plans to step Wonderful Lass up further in distance and she will be aimed at the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) at Doomben at the end of the month.

Saturday’s win was her fourth from 23 starts with a further six placings and she has earned $210,750.
