Much has been expected of Trusting since he won the Warwick Stakes (Gr 2) on just his third start. It is fair to say that the Patinack Farm entire has been much maligned since, despite him having little or no luck since but that was all forgotten yesterday when the five-year-old showed just what he is capable of with a strong win over My Kingdom Of Fife in the Chelmsford Stakes (Gr 2) over 1600 metres at Warwick Farm.

The hard luck story looked as though it would have another new chapter when Jo Moreira was trapped out four wide early on but the Singapore champion did not panic and elected to stay where he was, in fifth place but facing the breeze with Kingdom Of Fife on his inside.

Sweeping up into the straight with Kingdom Of Fife (Kingmambo), Trusting would not be denied however and he eyeballed the import 200 metres out, running all the way to the line to edge the Group 1 winner out by a head in a driving finish, leaving trainer John Thompson to celebrate afterwards.

“We had no luck in the last race,” he said, referring to Pane In The Glass in the Furious Stakes, “and didn’t have much in this race either but Jo managed to get him up and I would like to thank all the team, they have done a great job with this horse.” Thompson said.

“He has got all the ability in the world, I was only saying to Nathan’s sister yesterday that when he goes to stud I am going to buy a mare myself to send to him because he is just a beautiful horse, he is very much a stallion and it is sometimes hard to coax it out of him when his mind isn’t on the job but when he is a very good horse.” Thompson continued. “As everyone who has ridden him has said, one day he will jump, the next day he will be standing still but hopefully he keeps rolling on.”

Moreira was full of praise for Trusting. “He didn¹t jump well from the barriers so I hard to work on him but once I got to the top of the straight I gave a clear run and he just flew home to get a very nice win. I would like to thanks to the owner and trainer for getting me here, I am just so happy to be here”.

The Chelmsford is the second Group 2 win for Trusting (5 g Tale Of The Cat Legible, by Zabeel). He has now won three of his 19 races and placed in a further six for earnings of $772,400.
