Trusting (5 h Tale Of the Cat – Legible, by Zabeel) has always displayed prodigious talent and on Saturday he bids for Group 1 glory in the The Metropolitan Handicap over 2400 metres. And, having had a career interrupted by minor setbacks, trainer John Thompson is going to the races with a happy horse.

“He is injury-free and I’m not worried about the 2400 of the Metrop,” Thompson says. ”We saw it in the Hill Stakes where he was hitting the line strongly and I dare say he has the class edge on his rivals on Saturday.”

With Jo Moreira aboard, Trusting has won his past two starts at Group level. He sat three wide without cover to take the Chelmsford Stakes at Warwick Farm and then showed his versatility two weeks later when

Moreira had the confidence to put Trusting on the speed and the stallion did the rest, coming right away in the straight to register an impressive win.

Just seven horses have completed the Hill / Chelmsford Stakes double including the likes of Phar Lap, Bernborough, Limerick and Emancipation so Trusting finds himself in exalted company indeed.

And only two horses have completed the Hill Stakes / Metropolitan double and both were champions in Redcraze (1950) and Beau Vite (1940).

Already in exalted company, Trusting can confirm his place in history with victory in the Metropolitan.
