This weekend in racing – 18th February 2012
Patinack Farm’s racing and breeding operation have most bases covered with the five runners they have nominated for four stakes races this weekend.
One of most interest will be the Gimcrack Stakes winner Hussousa, who starts her run towards the Golden Slipper in the Widden Stakes.
Hussousa was impressive on debut with a 1-1/2 length Gimcrack Stakes victory at Randwick in October. She posted 58.42s for the 1000m which was almost half a second faster than the time recorded by the Pierro in the NSW Breeders Plate.
Silver Shadow Stakes winner Pane In The Glass will be one of two Patinack Farm runners in the Light Fingers Stakes, part of a fascinating card at Warwick Farm.
An autumn target for Pane In The Glass had not been finalised but the filly held nominations for the Newmarket Handicap and the Doncaster Mile.
Options are being kept open for the speedy daughter of Testa Rossa with regards distance. She was second to Helmet in the Champagne Stakes over 1600 metres last year, which has become a spectacular form race. And as the yard also has Crockett Stakes winner, kneeling (also entered the Newmarket and Doncaster) it will be interesting to see how the pair progress this prep.
Isopach, beaten less than two lengths into fifth place in the Victoria Derby, kicks off an Australian Derby campaign in the Royal Sovereign Stakes.
While five-year-old staying mare Galizani will resume in the Breeders Stakes as she takes her first steps towards the Sydney Cup.
