The racing team are on a high this week after the two-year-olds trialled superbly at Doomben on Tuesday morning. This was on the back of a couple of  fantastic wins by juveniles in Melbourne in the space of five days, confirming their well-being across states.

Ferment toyed with his rivals in Saturday’s two-year-old Plate at Caulfield scoring decisively, despite running green for much of the race. And this was on the back of Glimmer’s successful debut just days before. Indeed, the Husson filly will be looking to follow up her dominant win, when she stretches out over Flemington’s long straight on Saturday.

The Queensland-based 2yo’s are a hot topic at the moment in the lead up to the Magic Million Two-year-old Classic at the Gold Coast next month and for good reason. Rapid improver Sookie, by Patinack Farm’s very own Casino Prince lowered the colours of star filly Snipzu, on her first visit to a racecourse.

This MM purchase was described as a “standout on the day” by trainer John Thompson, along with Nechita who spread-eagled her field.

Thompson was also keen to praise Reflectance on his good showing at the trials and being a full-brother to the yard’s speedy Metallurgical hopes are high this handsomely-bred colt will produce the goods on the track.

Count Encosta looks set to go close at Rosehill on Saturday as he steps up to 2500m in the Christmas Cup. Thompson says the galloper “couldn’t be going any better, he’s at the right distance and drawn well” so expect him to be hitting the line hard.

Another filly pleasing the team is the attractive chestnut Pretty Pins. She is eying up her third win from six starts in Brisbane, and stable foreman Brett Killion reports that she “has worked a treat in between runs”.

So hopes are high for Patinack Farm this weekend and with opportunities apparent from speedy youngsters right through to stalwart gallopers,  there’s a lot to keep us excited.
