This Week in Racing – 13/01/12
Racing at the Gold Coast will take centre stage this weekend and Onetimeatbandcamp looks to have a good chance in the Magic Millions Country Cup (1400) based on his second last time out and recent trial win at Doomben. This Fastnet Rock gelding is a physically impressive specimen and he should be galloping to the line strongly in what looks a tough race.
Maules Creek, a $400k Redoute’s Choice purchase as a yearling is set to go well at Rosehill on Saturday in a BM75 over 1500m. This four-year-old is still lightly raced but is already a two-time winner in town. Head trainer John Thompson gives him a “super chance” and he worked good on Tuesday to keep the team happy.
Thompson was also pleased to be the winning bidder for Patinack Farm when picking up a Tale of the Cat yearling on day one of the Magic Millions Sale. Bred on the same cross to the team’s Trusting, being out of a Zabeel mare, the colt is a nice purchase for the future.
Patinack Farm stallion, Casino Prince might not have to wait much longer for another winner as Sigmund will be looking to back up his Sydney trial win last week. Accepted for Rosehill and Newcastle on Saturday, the Randwick-based two-year-old runner should show up well in either race that’s chosen.
