Patinack Farm head trainer John Thompson is hoping lightning can strike twice in Perth on Saturday. 12 months ago Thompson prepared Gathering (Tale Of The Cat) to win the Railway Handicap (Gr 1) when ridden by Craig Williams and Williams, fresh from riding four winners at Sandown Park in Melbourne last Saturday, will be aboard Saint Encosta for Patinack Farm in the $80,000 Tattersalls Cup (Listed) over 2100m.

Saint Encosta finished a creditable seventh over 1800m at Flemington on Oaks Day and he is preparing for the Perth Cup over 2400m. “He was slowly away at Flemington so I’m hoping Craig can get him away from the gates and then see him finish off.” Thompson says. “His main aim is the Perth Cup so a nice run here will be a bonus.”

The Tattersalls Cup is Race 5 at 1.45pm local time and Saint Encosta has drawn barrier 11 in a field of 14.
