Real Stolle The Real Deal
Patinack Farm enjoyed more Group success when Real Stolle (2 f Elusive Quality – Lemon Ruski, by Desert King) ran away with the time-honoured HKJC Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3) over 1000 metres.
Breaking sharply from her outside barrier, Real Stolle was allowed to track towards the centre of the track by Michael Rodd, who sat quietly until approaching 300 metres from home. Once Rodd asked for an effort, Real Stolle accelerated away to go clear and win comfortably at the finish by a widening length and a quarter over the well-backed Andre Roo Hoo, stopping the clock at 57.71.
This was second start for Real Stolle, who finished a creditable fifth in the Debutants Stakes (Listed) on October 12. “She has got the race experience under her belt and we’ve always had a bit of an opinion of her.” trainer John Thompson said. “We were a little bit disappointed at Caulfield but she’d come on since that run and back onto her home track today she didn’t shirk the task and the run did her the world of good.”
“She is a real two-year-old type and she will only go on from here, she will go for a spell now and come back in for the autumn. She is a nice filly going forward and if she improves a little bit she is right there. We’ve got a few two-year-olds in the stable and the team is doing a good job.”
Michael Rodd has a good opinion of Real Stolle. “It helps when you ride for leading stables like Patinack and it has shown here today. She is a really educated filly and she did everything right. She pinged out of the barriers and travelled beautifully the whole way down the straight. When I asked her for an effort she gave me a couple of lengths and she kept on really strong and didn’t get distracted by the marquees or the crowd which they sometimes can do. She just went hard to the line.”
