Pane on Track
Our high-class filly Pane In The Glass tackles the unbeaten Atlantic Jewel in the $300,000 Wakeful Stakes (Gr 2) over 2000m at Flemington on Saturday, and, like Isopach, she has had no luck with draw, starting from the outside gate in the field of 10.
Pane In The Glass (3 f Testa Rossa – Lyrics, by Bluebird) ran an uncustomary disappointing race at her start when seventh behind Stream in the Flight Stakes (Gr 1) at Randwick on October 1 but trainer Thompson is expecting a better showing on Saturday.
“We gave her a freshen after her last start and she perked up, for sure. She worked nicely on Tuesday with Levi’s Choice on the course proper at Flemington and handled the reverse way of going. Atlantic Jewel is obviously a very good filly but Pane In The Glass will be trying her hardest, it’s the only way she knows.”
The Flight Stakes was the first time in 11 races that Pane In The Glass has missed the first four. Arguably the best juvenile filly in Australia last season, she defeated Streama first-up in the Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr 3) over 1200m on a Heavy track at Warwick Farm so if the forecast rain materialises and the track deteriorates Tompson is unfazed. “She was only a length behind Helmet in the Champagne Stakes on a Heavy track and a repeat of that should put her right in the finish on Saturday.”
Jo Moreira rides and the Wakeful is race three, scheduled for 12.40pm.
