Pane In the Glass confirmed her status as one of the best fillies in Australia with a determined victory in today’s $125,000 Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr 3) at Warwick Farm.

Racing towards the rear early on, Pane In the Glass came widest of all in the straight and then challenged determinedly to overwhelm her rivals in the run to the line. At the finish Pane In The Glass (3 f Testa Rossa – Lyrics, by Bluebird) had a head to spare over Florentina (Redoute’s Choice) with Streama (Stratum) close up in third but the narrow margin does not truly reflect the merit of the victory.

Patinack Farm trainer John Thompson had earlier won in Melbourne when Kneeling took in the Crockett Stakes in the first leg of a feature stakes race double across the two states.

“We got two really nice fillies come out of today and she has been our flag bearer,” said Thompson. “She is a lovely filly and seems to have come back better and looks good for this prep.

“She went for a spell probably the best two-year-old filly of the season and wasn’t a stakes winner but she has that under the belt now and will hopefully go on to bigger and better things,” he said.

“She is a great racehorse with the blinkers on today but still has a lot of growing up mentally to do as well.” jockey Craig Williams said.

“She lost her legs at about the 600m and I tried to help her as much as I could without letting them get to far away. When I got out and asked her she looked like she was going to take off and win comfortable but she probably ran out of petrol near the end.”
