Patinack Farm will be well represented in the feature races in Sydney on Saturday. Head trainer John Thompson is very happy with the form of the horses going into the meeting and Singapore-based jockey Joao Moreira arrived into Australia on Thursday to partner Patinack stakes winners Pane In The Glass, Trusting, Gathering and Win For Wilson.
The Brazilian-born champion jockey set a new Singapore riding mark when he passed 100 winners for this season at Kranji last weekend. Moreira reached this mark exactly a month earlier than the same time last season.
Moreira rides last start Warwick Farm winner Pane In The Glass in the $175,000 Tattersalls Club Furious Stakes (Gr 2) over 1400 metres where she takes on Elite Falls, Streama and Aerobatics in what looks a repeat of the Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr 3) that Pane In The Glass was so dominant in winning when resuming on August 20.
“Pane In The Glass was probably a bit vulnerable first-up so for her to win like she did was excellent,” says Thompson. “She has taken good benefit from the run but I’d prefer it if the race was still at Randwick as she is better on a roomier track and Warwick Farm can be a bit tricky. That said she goes into the race very well and you know she will give her all.”
Trusting resumed with a brave run in the Warwick Stakes (Gr 2) where he raced on a very hot early pace and then ended up in the worst part of the track towards the inside but still stayed on gamely to be not beaten far. He too has come on for that run and Thomspon expects Trusting to be competitive in the Chelmsford Stakes (Gr 2) over 1600 metres.
“I was very pleased with him the other day. James McDonald got him away from the barriers which was excellent as he had been missing the kick in his barrier trials. Unfortunately he ended up racing a tad too close to the lead which was no-ones fault. He stuck on really well under the circumstances. As far as tomorrow is concerned he looks in good order so we’re hoping he can run well.”
