Isopach Streaks Home
Isopach completed a stakes winning weekend with homebreds for Patinack Farm when racing away to win the UCI Stakes (Listed) over 1800 metres at Flemington on Sunday. Following the brilliant win of Hussousa in Saturday’s Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick to give Husson (Arg) a stakes winner with his first Australian runner, the racing focus switched to Melbourne on Sunday where Isopach closed out the Flemington meeting in impressive fashion.
The win was full of merit as Isopach jumped from the extreme outside barrier 18 with Dan Nikolic able to slide across and position himself in fifth and sixth place, wide but with cover to the home turn. Once into the straight and Isopach sprinted clear, going away passing the 300 metre mark and untroubled in the run to the line to score by one and half lengths.
Nikolic was impressed with the style of Isopach’s victory. “He is a lovely horse. He is maturing all the time. My instructions were to go back today and he sort of bounced pretty quickly. If he had of drawn a marble I would’ve landed only three lengths from them and given him a cheaper run but he was three deep with cover.
“As it was he hit the front too early and held them very strongly. He is a nice horse that has got the right attitude and he’s maturing all the time. He’s a nice horse going forward.”
“It was a very strong win,” a smiling Melbourne foreman Glen Thompson observed. “Danny (Nikolic) came in full of praise for him after his last start behind Helmet in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude. He was run off his feet with the hot tempo but he hit the line as good as anything in the race so it was very satisfying to see him progress up in trip here.”
Isopach is now likely to tackle Group company according to Thompson “He’ll go towards the Norman Robinson then probably onto the Derby.”
Isopach (3 g Magic Albert – Curvaceous, by Zabeel) was offered for sale as a yearling by Patinack Farm at the 2010 Inglis Easter Sale. He was retained to race when he was passed-in at $45,000 with a $50,000 reserve.
This is the second stakes win for Isopach, who won the Oaklands Plate last season at two and after yesterday his record stands at two wins from nine starts for earnings of $162,600.
