The Huntress (ex Western Empress) recorded a stylish debut win at Sandown on Wednesday in the 2yo Browns Sawdust & Shavings Handicap 1200m.

Superbly handled by Brad Rawiller, the filly travelled sweetly in the one out three back position in the eight horse field, before letting down with a tremendous burst of speed in the straight to win comfortably on the line.

“She won pretty impressive today, we really ran home our last 400m pretty quick” Rawiller said.

Trainer Mick Kent is looking at the rich country carnival races with his talented filly. The Huntress will be aimed at a race over the Wagga Cup carnival before heading to Scone for $100,000 Inglis 2yo Challenge (1100m), success in both events will carry a $50,000 bonus.

“She’s a nice filly. I really like her” beamed a clearly excited Kent. “They didn’t go too hard but she was good late, she has always been very strong late in her work at home”.
