Another Superior
Patinack Farm look to have another smart filly in their stable after jockey Tim Bell declared Another Superior (3 f Captain Rio – Nishaani, by Gold Brose) came with a big run in the straight to land the $50,000 in the Earthborn Waste Services QTIS 3yo Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Bell allowed Another Superior to settle towards the rear in the 14-runner field and when he eased her out into clear space in the straight, Another Superior lengthened her stride and made up several lengths to run down Merryanna (Stratum) in the final stages and score by a head with the pair pulling clear of their rivals.
Bell, who is currently second on the Brisbane jockeys’ premiership behind defending champion Chris Munce, attributed the victory to Patinack Farm’s decision to use blinkers on Another Superior for the first time. “It was a great gear change by the stable and it had a lot to do with her winning. She’s a filly who is going places and the further she goes the better she’ll get. It was quite tight at the finish but she deserved this win. She’s quite versatile and has been a bit unlucky.”
Patinack Farm’s stable foreman in Queensland, Brett Killion, was confident the daughter of Captain Rio would do well following her close second to Emmalene two weeks earlier.
“She wobbled that day and took time to balance up and finished out the back after the start,” Killion said. “She then got caught three wide but both her runs this campaign have been very good.
“We came here pretty confident she could win. She ran about a bit last time so we put the blinkers on which got the right result.”
Another Superior is a full-sister to the high-class New Zealand filly Il Quello Veloce and with their sire Captain Rio (GB) already having sired a VRC Oaks winner in Brazilian Pulse, the future prospects for Another Superior are looking bright.
