RACE RECORD
The Breeders' Plate is twice as old as the Golden Slipper.
Since it was first run in 1906, no horse has run faster that Murtajill. Just 57 seconds is all it took for Murtajill to stamp himself on the race won by the likes of Luskin Star, Baguette, Show County and Encounter.
Two starts later, he posted another race record, this time in the G3 STC Skyline Stakes which he won by three lengths. Murtajill showed another side to himself, a brave one, when totally committed to going flat out all the way from barrier 14 in the Golden Slipper. Though a beaten favourite, he lost no admirers while finishing fourth.
Murtajill returned at three to embark on an ambitious yet fruitful Group One campaign which saw him twice runner-up to a pair of champions.
In consecutive starts during May, Murtajill chased Racing To Win in the All Aged Stakes then backed up to finish second to Apache Cat in the Doomben 10,000. Two colossal performances by a three-year-old at weight-for-age no matter what the opposition.
PEDIGREE NOTES
Murtajill made headlines even before raced having established a new record price for a weanling - $660,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast.
Apart from the fact that he is by the best performed son of Danehill - 7-times G1 winner Rock Of Gibraltar - Murtajill's dam is none other than the extraordinary Skating. Skating emulated champions Emancipation and Sunline when she become one of the rare 3YO fillies to win the Doncaster Handicap. Skating has since gone on to become a blue-hen broodmare with progeny including Murtajill, Sunset Run and the Magic Millions hero Bradbury's Luck.
Murtajill's future ability to throw milers, maybe even classic types, is enchanced by the presence of Melbourne Cup and L.K.S Mackinnon Stakes winner, At Talaq, as his dam-sire. At Talaq is the broodmare sire of 30 SW'ers including Mummify, Bel Mer, Above Deck, Rewaaya and Nancy Eleanor (dam of Phelan Ready).
Outstanding in every department, Murtajill is a welcome addition to the Patinack Farm roster and we recommend him to you.
