RACE RECORD
Husson (ARG) was nothing short of a racetrack sensation in Argentina. He retired an unbeaten triple Group One winner from only five starts. He was a star Group One winner at two, who trained on to beat the best at Group One level at three – the same racetrack scenario as our champion sires Redoute’s Choice and Flying Spur.
Husson’s career began with a stunning debut win over 1200 metres at Palermo when he gave his seven rivals a galloping lesson.
A step to 1400m and Group One company at only his second start made little difference to the dynamic Husson (ARG). The colt demolished the San Isidro track record in winning Argentina’s Golden Slipper equivalent – the Gran Premio Raul Y Raul E. Chevalier – by an incredible nine lengths.
His winning time of 1 minute 18.98 seconds ranks as one of the fastest ever 1400 metre times run in the world. No horse in the United States has run faster.
Six weeks later Husson’s career record went to three wins from three starts as he comprehensively beat the future sensation Asiatic Boy in the Group One Gran Criterium (1600m) at San Isadora. His time? An awesome 1:32.88.
Husson (ARG) lost nothing in a spell and resumed in April 2007 for a brilliant first-up win over 1600 metres in the Group Two Palermo Clasico Benito Villanueva before backing up for his final race start, cruising to victory in the Group One Palermo Internacional de Las Americas (1600m).
The best line on Husson’s talent is measured by his trainer Roberto Pellegatta who also trained Asiatic Boy – a horse who would go on to be a sensation in Dubai (winning the 2007 UAE Derby and finishing second to Curlin in the 2008 World Cup).
“Husson (ARG) is one of the very best horses I’ve ever trained, much better than Asiatic Boy,” Pellegatta said.
PEDIGREE NOTES
'Unbeaten Champion' is one to describe the miraculous Husson (ARG), 'outcross' in another.
Those in the USA know only too well of the growing influence of the South American continent as a source of champions - including 2006 World Champion Racehorse Invasor (bred in Argentina) and Brazilian bred Leroidesanimaux - Champion USA Turf Horse 2005.
The phenomenal nature of American-bred Mr Prospector son Hussonet in Chile rightfully drew comparisons with the blanket dominance of Sunday Silence's blanket dominance in Japan and Danehill's indelible imprint on our industry.
Hussonet made an immediate and lasting impression in Australia. His first two crops have so far heralded 8 SW'ers including Champion Sprinter Weekend Hussler, Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan as well as SW'ers Miss Darcey, Rios, Gold Trail and Husson Lightning.
Significantly, 75% of Hussonet's Australian SW'ers are from Northern Dancer-line mares utulising the Mr Prospector - Northern Dancer cross.
Remarkably similar in build, colour and marking to his father, Husson (ARG) provides with breeders with a suitable match for the enormous pool of Northern Dancer line mares in this country.
In Hussonet, breeders can feel confident that this branch of the Mr Prospector male-line has already passed its test under Australian conditions.
