Casino Prince

From his first start to his last Casino Prince proved his class as one of Australia’s toughest and most talented racehorses.

RACE RECORD

He didn’t hide in battle.

When Casino Prince beat the star mare Tuesday Joy to win the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes (WFA 1600m) at Randwick in the autumn of 2008, it completed a grand slam of group wins for the horse as a two, three and four-year-old.

At two, he proved his star qualities with three brilliant wins headed by the Group Three Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. So impressive was the colt that he was sent out a raging favourite for the world’s richest race for juveniles, the Golden Slipper.

Casino Prince returned as a three-year-old to win the Group Two Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley before taking on star filly Miss Finland in the Group One Cadbury Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield. He was only nudged out of a win by that filly in the last few strides.

A mature and even better Casino Prince appeared as a four-year-old. After winning the Chipping Norton, it was a shame to see him beaten in the prestigious Group One Doncasrter Handicap (1600m) at Randwick. He flashed home to just fail in a truly eyecatching performance.

Casino Prince is one of two stakes winners from the top producing Last Tycoon mare Lady Capel, a stakes-placed sister to group winner Palia (dam of Dr Green), stakes-winning sire Just Awesome and Mrs. Squillionaire, the dam of Hong Kong Derby Trial victor Green Birdie.

His sire Flying Spur, Australia’s champion sire for the 2006-07 season, represents the incomparable Danehill sire-line. Flying Spur’s list of stars in recent times includes Dealer Principal (Rosehill Guineas), Forensics (Golden Slipper), Magnus (The Galaxy) and Mentality (Randwick Guineas).

We believe Casino Prince is the best credentialed Australian-bred stallion retiring to stud for the 2008 breeding season.

PEDIGREE NOTES

Casino Prince is by the second of nine-times Australian Champion General Sire Danehill's five Golden Slipper winners - Flying Spur.  Flying Spur's SW'ers number 69 - among them twelve G1 winners including Casino Prince.

Casino Prince's dam, Lady Capel, is a stakes-placed daughter of Last Tycoon whose daughters have collectively produced over 100 SW'ers around the globe.
Casino Prince is line bred 4 X 4 to Northern Dancer.

While his pedigree is mostly concerned with speed, the presence of Sir Ivor, Mill Reef and Kalamoun open the way for Guineas/Classic horses to arise. It is significant that Casino Prince's half-brother, Lord of the Lad, won stakes races from a mile to 2400m.

Two stallions from within the family who have thrown G1 winners in Australia include Just Awesome and Piccolo, each of whom overcame limited opportunity to achieve their success.
Casino Prince's family continues to add major black-type achievers most notably Patinack Farm's AJC Champagne Stakes - G1 (1600m) winner Onemorenomore.

The son of Red Ransom was sold for $800,000 at the 2008 Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is from G3 winner Palia, a half-sister to Casino Prince's dam, Lady Capel.
