Rosehill Double Keeps Patinack Ball Rolling

Patinack Farm’s winning double at Rosehill on Saturday certainly put a spring in everyone’s step in the run up to Christmas.

Promising filly No Evidence Needed ran up a hat-trick with a dominant performance to land the 3yo fillies event, while Tagus sprang a pleasant 25/1 surprise in winning the last race of the day, the Golden Slipper Festival Hcp over 1500m.

No Evidence Needed raced just off the early leader Modonna before asserting herself in the straight to win, going away by two and a quarter lengths. The time of 1:29.34 for the 1500 metres was a class record and just half a second off the time run by the older horses in the Festival Stakes (Listed) later in the day.

No Evidence Needed is progressing nicely and she is certainly shaping up into a handy middle-distance performer. No Evidence Needed is by the French Derby and 2000 Guineas winner Shamardal - the sire of our own stakeswinners Marquardt and Run For Wilson as well as this season’s VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume – out of Generosa, Group placed in the Light Fingers Stakes and a daughter of Epsom Derby winner Generous (Ire).

Trainer John Thompson believes No Evidence Needed is a filly with a future. "She'll get further, her dam ran fifth in a Victoria Oaks and ran well in one of the Oaks lead-ups," he said after Saturday’s win. "She could develop into an Oaks filly. She's learning the caper, she's a real professional and she's going places."

Tagus is a consistent sprinter miler and he showed the benefit of his first-up run at Rosehill a fortnight previously to edge out Baci Amore in a driving finish in the hands of Brenton Avdulla.  It was an impressive run that will now see him headed towards the Gr 2 Villiers at Randwick on December 19th.

Trained at Port Macquarie by Wayne Wilkes, Tagus is by champion sire Encosta de Lago and a half-brother to our own Group 1 winner Casino Prince, who is just finishing off a second, outstanding book of mares at Patinack Farm in the Hunter Valley.
