Peter Beer – Chief Executive Officer


Peter has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Patinack Farm since December 2009.

In July, 2010 he was also appointed a Director of the NSW Racehorse Owners Association.

Prior to a period of private investment and consultancy, Peter was employed for twenty-two years as an executive in the Kerry Packer organisation.

Peter was employed by Consolidated Press Holdings Limited group in various management and key strategic positions from January 1981 until resignation in September 2003. This included three years as CFO of the ASX listed investment arm and eight years overseas as CEO and Director of the international group, that managed all businesses and investments outside of Australia.

In 1998 was additionally appointed CEO and Director of the international arm of Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd.

Ben Lawrence – Stud Manager


Ben Lawrence has been with Patinack Farm since its inaugural breeding season in 2008.

Starting in July 2008 Ben was first employed as Assistant Stud Manager and took over as Stud Manager in February 2009.

Ben has had a strong passion for thoroughbred breeding from a very young age and was working on stud farms all through high school and on weekends in his local area of the Riverina.

After completing high school Ben completed a breeding management and veterinary nursing diploma at the National Centre for Equine training in Wangaratta Victoria.

He then ventured to the Hunter Valley to pursue further knowledge in the thoroughbred industry. Ben worked for the Sangster family’s Swettenham Stud for ten years.

In that time he managed all areas of the stud farm and enjoyed two international stints in China and the United Kingdom.

Before his commencement at Patinack in 2008 Ben ventured to Victoria and was Bloodstock and Nominations Manager for Chatswood Stud.

A with his dedicated team at in NSW and QLD is responsible for the future development of Patinack’s breeding properties, which are expanding along with the growth of the organization.

Over the past three years Ben has been heavily involved in building the quality of bloodstock for Patinack Farm including the purchases of Group 1 winner’s such as the internationally acclaimed Champion South African filly Sun Classique, Bel Mer, Thousand Guineas victor Serious Speed and Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder. Included in this illustrious list are the French 2000 Guineas and French Derby winner Lope de Vega (IRE) and Monaco Consul (NZ), the dual Group one middle distance winner of the VRC Victoria Derby and AJC Spring Champion Stakes.

John Thompson – Head Trainer


John Thompson started his training career with Patinack Farm in September 2009. With just the one stable in operation at Warwick Farm, John’s first job was to organise and implement the opening of interstate stables at the Gold Coast and Flemington.

As a fourth generation Trainer his education began from an early age. John is the son of premiership winning trainer Vic Thompson. John started as foreman under his fathers’ tutelage where he worked alongside another foreman, namely Peter Snowden.

Eight years later Johns father retired and an opportunity arose working with trainer, Bill Mitchell. John began running Bill Mitchell’s Sydney stable for four years and worked alongside another foreman Peter Moody.

He later began working for Bart Cummings as foreman and excelled in that role for eight years. During that period John was entrusted with overseeing the running of Bart’s Sydney stable, which had 80 horses constantly in work.

During Johns twenty years as foreman he has won premierships and had horses in his care that have won up to thirty Group 1 races of the highest caliber including the Melbourne Cup, multiple Derby’s and Guineas etc.

In just his first season of training he led in his first Group 1 winner when Small Minds won the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks in South Australia among ninety-two winners for the season. In his second season, Gathering gave John his second Group 1 winner when he led all the way to the win the $1,000,000 Railway Stakes in December of 2010. With over 200 winners since commencing as trainer for Patinack Farm, John Thompson is an integral part of the Patinack Farm Empire.

Tony Marshall – Chief Financial Officer


Tony Marshall joined Patinack Farm at the beginning of its second full year of operations in January 2009.

Starting as the company’s Management Account, he has since taken up the position of Chief Financial Officer at Patinack Farm.

Tony comes from a taxation and business services background having spent over 5 years as an Accountant in a Chartered Accountancy Firm based in Newcastle. Here he providing a wide range of taxation, accounting, and business services to individuals and businesses from various industries.

With a keen interest in the thoroughbred industry Tony joined Patinack Farm, and since then has since been involved in the growth of Patinack Farm into one of today’s leading thoroughbred breeding and racing organisations in Australia.

Tony holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is an associate member of CPA Australia.

Bradley Knox – National Nominations Manager


Brad has 20 years experience in Sales and Management roles within the Liquor and Pharmaceutical Industries.

Beginning his sales management career at Bacardi Ltd, he successfully managed key State and National customers that culminated in his promotion to Sales Director in 2005.  Brad led the Bacardi sales team for 5 years and as part of the senior executive team delivered record volume and profit results from 2005-2009.

In 2010, Brad moved to Chemsave Pty Ltd as Managing Director.  During his time at Chemsave Pty Ltd, the company enjoyed a very successful period of increased profit, supplier investment and membership numbers.

Brad has always had a passion for the thoroughbred industry and brings to this role a proven track record of management success.
